Fall 2020 update
Happy Fall, Friends of Batch Baking Company,
Fall - and all its variations - certainly has returned quickly and strongly to the Pacific Northwest. The fires are hopefully out, and our smoky air has cleared. COVID-19 takes new twists and turns (GREAT job Washington for keeping new cases trending downward!) and still greatly impacts our daily lives. Schools have resumed in all sorts of ways. Injustice and the need for massive social change keep us learning and acting and supporting. And soon we vote; we vote like everything we value depends on each of our votes, because it does. Please VOTE!
OPERATIONS UPDATES
We wanted to let you know of some operational changes in our shop for the Fall and into the Winter months:
· Starting October 1, we are adding Tuesdays, 11am-6pm to our hours of operation
· We are staying open an hour later (until 7pm) on Thursdays and Fridays
· Masks are still required; we appreciate folks maintaining appropriate physical distances when in the shop
· For your safety, and ours, we remain vigilant to keeping a safe, clean and sanitized shop and executing appropriate procedures like low-/no-contact payment.
· Please come see us!
While we keep expanding operations in our shop, we are still happy to provide special deliveries to you in the event you are not yet going out much. Your delivery requests sustained us (and hopefully you!) in the Spring and early Summer, and we are grateful. We want to keep getting you goodies in any way possible, so give us a shout if you want something delivered (during regular, expanded operating hours for a nominal fee). Which leads us to…
NEIGHBORHOOD DELIVERY PROGRAM
We have decided to continue piloting our Neighborhood Delivery Program we started in August. We loved seeing folks we haven’t seen in months and were happy to get our goodies out to so many. THANK YOU! We want to reach more of you (and many of you again!)
In October, we plan to try a specific drop-off/pick-up location in each of the 3 neighborhoods (West Seattle, North Seattle, Southeast Seattle), rather than deliver to individual homes, in the hopes we can increase our reach. Our plan is to service West Seattle on Friday, 10/9; then follow-up with North Seattle on Friday, 10/16; then round out October with Southeast Seattle on Friday, 10/23.
We’ll do another round in November, with dates as follows: West Seattle – Friday, 11/6; North Seattle – Friday, 11/13; Southeast Seattle – Friday, 11/20. For November, we may continue a drop-off/pick-up location (like done in October) or we may go back to home delivery. Look to our social media assets for details per neighborhood as they happen. So, if you do not already, follow us now (@batchbakingseattle on Facebook or Instagram) to get the latest!
FALL MENU ITEMS AND FLAVORS – SPECIAL OFFERING – HOLIDAY PLANNING
We have been spending some time over the past few weeks experimenting with some new sweet treat items for Fall. Icebox cookies have us intrigued. We have a Mexican chocolate wafer cookie with just the right amount of kick. We are playing with maple, apple & cinnamon, and pecan pie flavors. We have made a version of a classic nougat, caramel, and chocolate candy bar. As always, we welcome feedback. When you come by the shop, we just might ask you to taste-test something new. If you have thoughts, please share them.
One new cookie coming online is more than just a delicious cookie. Like many of you, we were devastated to hear of the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg and grateful for all she did to make this a more fair and just country. We wanted to do something to honor her (in addition to voting!) and to help continue her work. We were reminded of her husband, Martin Ginsberg, who was a well-known amateur chef. In honor of the Notorious RBG we will be baking up batches of Marty Ginsburg’s “Grandchildren’s Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies.” 100% of all sales of these delicious cookies through the election on November 3rd will go to support Legal Voice, working to protect and expand the rights of girls and women throughout the Northwest. You can learn more about Marin Ginsburg’s cooking and love for his wife a https://www.npr.org/2011/12/12/143352409/at-the-high-court-a-tribute-to-a-chef-supreme. You can learn more about the work of Legal Voice at www.legalvoice.org.
For the holidays, we are planning to offer some special treats for a limited time for pre-orders, and likely might adjust some hours. We will be using social media to communicate offerings and schedule adjustments.
2020 has been unprecedented. So much more can and still will happen. One thing we have realized is the importance of building small, local relationships and community. Remember to take care of yourselves and those who need us now more than ever. Buy and eat local. Push for structural change. We remain committed to this project and to you.
We thank you for your time. We hope that you are all doing the very best that you can. We are grateful for your support. May 2020 be finished on a positive trajectory soon. Keep wearing your masks! VOTE!
Sincerely
Jared and Scot
